65 – Rosh Pinna – Luke Smith

Luke Smith attends the Christadelphian Church or ecclesia that meets in Nanango, a small town north west of Brisbane, Queensland.

Luke brings to light some of the heritage of the Christadelphians community and their involvement in the early days of Jewish settlement in the Holy Land. One of the first villages established was that of Rosh Pina, a settlement funded in part by the Christadelphians.

The wiki page says Rosh Pinna was one of the first modern Jewish agricultural settlements in the history of the Land of Israel, then part of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). In 1883, it became the first Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel … Laurence Oliphant collected funds for Rosh Pina from Christadelphians and other sympathizers in Britain.”

  1. “Rosh Pinna was one of the first modern Jewish agricultural settlements in the history of the Land of Israel, then part of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). In 1883, it became the first Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel to come under the patronage of the Baron Edmond James de Rothschild.” Wikipedia.

Baron Edmond James de Rothschild (mentioned in the discussion with Luke) was the father of James Armand Edmond de Rothschild who married Dorothy. Dorothy made it her mission to teach and guide Chaim Weizmann in British etiquette and then introduced him to her husband who had connections in the British government…etc (GCT Episode: 195 Stephen Whitehouse – 1917 The State of Israel). All these separate efforts lead to the Balfour declaration.
