110 Revised English Version – John Schoenheit

John Schoenheit is a founding member of Spirit & Truth Fellowship International, which began in January 1989. He has invested over fifty years in Bible study, holds degrees in theology and philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has studied archaeology in Israel with Hebrew Union College and taken courses at Reformed Theological Seminary. He taught Old Testament History and other courses at the Way College and has travelled and taught all over the United States and in many countries around the world.

John has authored a number of books, and in the year 2000 started translation work on the Revised English Version, a translation of the Bible with an accompanying commentary. John ran a home church for many years and now currently has a weekly online fellowship. He lives in Southwest Florida with his wife Jenivee and enjoys kayaking and fishing.

John joins Wilderness Conversations to discuss his labour of love – the translation of the scriptures into English without the bias of a Trinitarian theology.

John discusses the development and philosophy behind the Revised English Version (REV) Bible translation, focusing on its translation approach, use of language, and the inclusion of commentary. John explains the challenges of translating ancient texts along with the inevitability of some bias and highlights the REV’s use of “Yahweh” instead of “Jehovah”.
